@AnonymousKenya_ hacks two popular Twitter accounts

Two popular Twitter accounts in Kenya – @Xtianndela and @C_Nyakundi – have been hacked by the (in)famous hack-tivist group – @AnonymousKenya_

The group through the hacked account, have claimed having hacked Xtian Ndela’s Facebook account, Gmail account and his website.

@XtianNdela is among Kenya’s most followed accounts with over 300,000 followers.

The group has also taken the claim of having hacked @C_Nyakundih’s Twitter, gmail and also promised to take down his website which contains politically-related content.

The hackers in one of their tweets claimed they had infiltrated Cyprian Nyakundi’s accounts after he used Twitter to “spread propaganda and hate speech” and also bragged that his “Five minutes of Fame were over.”

Two weeks ago, the group hacked other sensitive Twitter accounts – including the Kenya Defence Forces’ , Major Emmanuel Chirchir, KDF spokesman account and Vice President William Ruto’s accounts.

This week, the hacker group Anonymous also hacked Israel’s Ministry of Justice website, the state archive portal, and even the national advertising agency. Most of the attacks were repelled within hours, with all agencies currently back online.

In 2013, a quarter of a million Twitter users had their accounts hacked in the latest in a string of high-profile security breaches at internet firms.

With over 21 million internet users out of its 44 million population, Kenya ranks fourth in cyber-crime cases in Africa behind South Africa, Egypt and Algeria, according to latest statistics by Kaspersky Lab.

However, the government states that it’s keen on fighting cyber-crime within the country and recently launched the Cyber Security Masterplan. http://www.cio.co.ke/
