WhatsApp now indicates if your message has been read

If you’re an avid WhatsApp user, you will probably notice a small change on the app. The app will now light up its double-check marks blue to indicate a message has been read.

In many occasions, users have misinterpreted the double check marks next to messages on WhatsApp to indicate that a message has been read or looked at like many other social media platforms offer the feature, but that’s not the case.

In real sense, the double check marks means a message has been received by the other user while the single check tells you the message reached WhatsApp’s servers. The blue coloring adds a third layer of information to indicate recipient has received the message as per the updated FAQ on WhatsApp website.

In another way, you can also long press on a message to access ‘Message Info‘ screen, this will show you the time the message was received, read or played.

Alternatively, one can use ‘last seen’ indicators on the top left of a conversation to know when a contact was last used the app, but with the introduction of the blue checkmarks this will be more direct
